Our Vision... Envisioning a world where children are welcomed and nurtured...in the womb, in the home, in the community and beyond... Mother & Child Education Center has been caring for mothers and educating the public about pregnancy and parenting since 1971. Many thousands of moms have benefited from our free services. Our center is open 50 hours a week, staffed by experienced volunteers and student interns. As an independent nonprofit organization, we receive no government funding and are supported entirely by donations, grants and fundraisers. Mother & Child Education Center serves a vital need as a transitional stepping stone—connecting women of different generations, economic backgrounds and cultures, to build a community of competent, confident mothers. In a world that can be overwhelming, we welcome women into this safe gathering place, and offer them the most appropriate resources from the greater community to help them prepare and sharpen their skills for motherhood and parenting. We recognize that motherhood is both a joyful and challenging journey. We joyfully celebrate and creatively assist mothers in meeting the challenges of parenting from the moment they discover they are pregnant. Sometimes mothers need help in the form of information and referrals. We provide information through classes, workshops, Open House activities, mentoring, books, pamphlets, DVDs. Our community outreach coordinator connects moms with a wide network of agencies and services, and vice versa. Moms need an expanding wardrobe during pregnancy. Our maternity boutique has clothing that fits her changing figure and her many fashion needs: comfy casuals for home or the mall, smart business attire for a job interview, something dressy for a special occasion, new undergarments for a comfortable fit! No matter her age, size or style preferences, most moms are able to find something that seems tailor-made just for them. Even while she is pregnant, mom is already thinking about how she will clothe and care for her little one. We help her gather a baby layette of her own choosing at our monthly open house, and after baby is born, many mothers return the clothing their children no longer wear, and select new clothes and other supplies for their quickly growing youngsters. Quiet Conversation and Time are the greatest gifts we give to the women we serve, and whether we are open or closed, we are available by telephone to help women who have pregnancy or parenting concerns.
